TÜV Süd accredited for certifications in the UK

News

TÜV Süd is the first European notified body that is also an approved body for the UK and offers certifications for the European and British market from one source.

The requirements for distributing lifts and lift components on the British market have changed due to Brexit. All products that used to need a CE mark will in future have to have a UKCA mark. Products that are already certified will also need a new certificate. The transitional period will end on 31 December 2022.

UKCA is the new British certification mark that is comparable with the CE mark for the European single market. It is issued under the supervision of the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS). Accredited companies like TÜV Süd check whether the manufacturers observe the requirements for marking their products.

Requirements of the British market

Certification according to the Lifts Regulations 2016 and the corresponding UKCA mark are mandatory upon expiry of the transitional period for access to the British market. This will be compulsory for all lifts and lift components distributed in the United Kingdom from 1 January 2023.

TÜV Süd can now support manufacturers of lifts and lift components in implementing the new requirements for the British market. The company offers companies up-to-date information about the UKCA mark and a direct link to the official information portal of the British government on its website.
