Remote monitoring for escalators

News

What has already been on the market for many years for lifts is now also available with immediate effect from Schindler for escalators in Germany. The digital Schindler Ahead Core connection is intended to monitor the functioning of escalators around the clock.

From now on, customers of Schindler Germany will be able to use the intelligent remote monitoring already familiar to them from lifts, irrespective of manufacturer, for their escalators too, Schindler Germany declared.

The solution has already become established in several countries, including the USA and China, and has been trained with comprehensive data. Schindler Ahead Core, as the solution is called, collects, analyses and transmits system-relevant data 24/7 in real time, according to the Group.

Moreover, it independently detected deviations from normal operations and initiated an automatic fault clearance sequence in motion, Schindler reported. "If an escalator comes to a standstill, an immediate notification is triggered to which the experts from Schindler can react immediately via the remote digital connection or in person on the spot," the press release continued.

Schindler service technicians get the fault reports of the installations including fault diagnoses directly on their smartphone. This enabled them, also based on earlier data, to prepare for the situation at the place of deployment and quickly localise the fault causes.

"Our customers no longer lose any time and resources by regularly checking the escalators, identifying a shutdown themselves and reporting it to us," noted Stefan Janßen, Service Director at Schindler Germany. In addition, customers at all times retained an overview of their systems, since an information and communication platform, called ActionBoard, provided transparency on the status, faults and measures performed.

Escalator operators can retrofit Ahead Core to all Schindler installations. Retrofitting was also technically possible for older installations and escalators of other manufacturers. The smart connection to Schindler could be configured from the start for new escalators.
