Motum expanding on the Emerald Isle
Ascension Lifts now belongs to Motum. This is the group’s first takeover outside of Scandinavia. The purchase in Ireland was an important milestone in its European expansion strategy.
Motum AB completed the takeover of Ascension Lifts at the end of April. As a result, the company established in 2003, with its headquarters in Dublin, is now part of the Motum Group – according to the latter, the biggest independent company group in Norway and Sweden in the field of lifts, escalators and automatic doors.
Motum stated that Ascension Lifts was the biggest independent lift company in Ireland. It employed more than 50 employees and was specialised in high-end lift solutions.
Important milestone
"With a strong team, proven experience in multi-brand service, and a well-established local presence, Ascension Lifts is well aligned with Motum’s values and complements the structure of the existing subsidiaries," the press release continued. The takeover was an important milestone in Motum’s long-term strategy of expanding its presence in Europe.
Integration in the Motum and Mitsubishi Electric Group represented a new chapter for Paul Flynn. "We look forward to sharing our local knowledge, learning from our new colleagues across Europe, and showing what Ireland has to offer," the founder and managing director of Ascension Lifts revealed.
Motum Group
Before entering the market in Ireland, Motum was last active in Norway. There it took over the lift company Alt Heis (see LIFTjournal 1/25). Consequently, twelve companies now belong to the company group, eight in Sweden, three in Norway and one in Ireland.
Motum is part of the Mitsubishi Electric Building Solutions Corporation (MEBS) – a subsidiary of the Japanese conglomerate Mitsubishi Electric. The total sales of the Motum Group before the takeover of Ascension Lifts were 930 million Swedish crowns (about 85 million euros).
