Gisela Bernstein celebrates her eightieth birthday
Gisela Bernstein, long-standing chairperson of Bernstein AG, celebrated her eightieth birthday on 5 March. Together with her husband, Hans-Joachim Bernstein, she has helped to shape the history of the company for decades.
Bernstein is a provider of industrial safety and enclosure technology, which also produces switching equipment, sensors and enclosures for lifts and escalators.
In February 1970, Gisela Bernstein began her career at Bernstein as "clerk for foreign customers." Her task: to expand the international business relationships of the company.
"She made a decisive contribution to internationalisation with her strategic skill and assertiveness and from 1988 was in charge of the Export Department," according to the company’s press release. During this time, Hans-Joachim Bernstein set up subsidiaries with her support in France, Austria, the United Kingdom, the USA, China, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
Member of the Supervisory Board
She was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2008, of which she became the chair in 2010. When her husband had to withdraw from management due to illness, she continued to lead the family company. Since 2014, she has been at the head of the company together with her children Nicole and Achim Bernstein.
Even after her withdrawal from operational business in 2021, Gisela Bernstein remained connected with the company as a member of the Supervisory Board. Today, the company is managed in the third generation by Nicole and Achim Bernstein.
