It is with deep sadness that VFA-Interlift bids farewell to Stephan Kretzschmar, who died in a tragic plane crash on 5 July 2025, together with his 33-year-old son and his son's partner.
‘Stephan Kretzschmar was a defining figure in the lift industry for decades. With his tireless commitment, professional expertise and keen sense of interpersonal relationships, he left a mark that extends far beyond his immediate professional environment,’ reads the association's obituary, which we are publishing here in full:
"As sales manager at LM Liftmaterial GmbH, Stephan was the face of the company for many years. With his foresight, perseverance and persuasiveness, he played a key role in establishing LM Liftmaterial as a reliable partner both nationally and internationally and was instrumental in developing its reputation.
However, his work was not limited to the company: in 2001, he was elected to the board of VFA-Interlift e.V. as an assessor for the first time. In 2007, he took on the role of deputy chairman, which he fulfilled with a great sense of responsibility until his departure in 2013. He remained associated with the VFA even after that – as an honorary member, a valued speaker at the VFA Academy and a long-standing correspondent for the interlift trade fair.
Those who knew Stephan appreciated his calm, intelligent and level-headed manner. He always shared his knowledge generously – with colleagues, young professionals and partners alike. His passion for technology was always accompanied by his ability to inspire and bring people together.
His sudden death leaves a deep void. Our thoughts are with his family, especially his son and his son's partner, who had to share this tragic journey with him. The VFA-Interlift association, his colleagues in the industry and many companions have lost not only an experienced expert in Stephan Kretzschmar, but also a person who worked with heart and mind. We will honour his memory."
