Lift motor manufacturer Ziehl-Abegg mourns the loss of Uwe Ziehl

Uwe Ziehl passed away on 6 June 2026 at the age of 79. He served as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the technology group Ziehl-Abegg from 2005 to 2020.

"The Ziehl family, the owners, the Supervisory Board, the Executive Board and the entire workforce at Ziehl-Abegg mourn the loss of Uwe Ziehl," stated the Künzelsau-based company, which manufactures motors and control technology for lifts, amongst other things, in a press release following the unexpected passing of the 79-year-old.

Uwe Ziehl was born in Füssen in 1947 as the grandson of the company’s founder, Emil Ziehl. In 1967, after completing his engineering studies, he founded Ziehl industrie-elektronik GmbH in Schwäbisch Hall. Uwe Ziehl had a significant influence on the development of Ziehl-Abegg over decades and played a decisive role in driving it forward. He also played a key role in the company’s development into a global technology group specialising in fans, electric motors and control technology. From 2005 to 2020, Uwe Ziehl chaired the Supervisory Board. 

Joachim Ley, CEO of Ziehl-Abegg, paid tribute to the deceased as a defining entrepreneurial figure. ‘He shaped Ziehl-Abegg over decades with clear decisions and technical consistency. Our thoughts are with his family.’
