Mourning the loss of Günter Horny

Günter Horny passed away on 29 July 2026 at the age of 76, reported the VDMA Lifts and Escalators Association in an obituary.

"It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to our long-standing colleague. From January 1990 until his retirement in June 2015, Günter Horny played a pivotal role in shaping the technical regulations of the Lifts and Escalators Association.

Defining figure in the industry

Over the course of decades, Günter Horny actively helped shape German and international standardisation work for lifts, thereby making a significant contribution to the further development of safety, quality and technical standards in the lift industry. This work remains his defining legacy and will be remembered for a long time to come by many of his colleagues.

His high professional standards and his tireless commitment made him a defining figure in the industry. With Günter Horny’s passing, we lose an exceptionally competent colleague and a valued companion. His knowledge, his experience and his contribution to the development of technical regulations will never be forgotten."
