New transport solution for bicycles in residential buildings

News

Osma has launched the “oBike Riser”. The idea behind the new product is to provide more flexibility and safety when transporting bicycles in residential buildings.

The transport solution is available in combination with osma’s new residential lift.

The bicycle riser consists of a special mount, which runs on a rail in the corner of the lift car and is powered by an electric motor. This allows a bicycle weighing up to 35 kg to be anchored and lifted in the car.

For example, there was also room in compact 630-kg-cars for bicycles with large frames, which would otherwise be unable to transport any bicycles, the company explained.

Easy to operate

According to osma, the operation is easy. "Call the lift as normal, push the bicycle into the car - an invisible bumper protects the door frame against sharp-edged pedal -–and lower the oBike Riser." This occurs via a dead man’s switch at the car entrance, which is controlled by a key. This safety precaution ensures that only residents familiar with the operation use the oBike Riser.

The front wheel is hung on the bracket and secured with Velcro tape. A protective covering on the bracket prevents damage or scratches to the wheel rim. The bracket is then raised until the lift door is no longer blocked. As long as the bicycle is in the entrance during the loading process, a light curtain prevents the doors from closing.

Next, select the floor as usual. Lower the oBike Riser again when you reach your destination floor, release the front wheel and leave the car with the bicycle. The whole process takes less than 90 seconds. Thanks to the space-optimised design, there is room for four more passengers or shopping bags in addition to the bicycle.

Tested under continuous loading

The autonomous electric motor of the bicycle riser is operated via the power supply of the lift. A breakdown of the oBike Riser would not affect the availability the lift, according to osma.

Moreover, the oBike Riser had undergone continuous load testing in the company’s own test laboratory. "After a simulated use duration of two years there were neither unusual motor temperature or noise level increases nor noticeable wearing of parts.""
