News

Professor Dr.-Ing. Klaus Feyrer died on 17 December 2020, shortly after his 90th birthday.

Klaus Feyrer studied mechanical engineering/conveyance technology at the Technische Hochschule Karlsruhe, where he also did his doctorate. After working for R. Stahl and Thyssen Aufzüge as a manager for several years, he received an appointment at the University of Stuttgart. He took over the rope technology department at the Institute of Mechanical Handling and Logistics, which he headed for more than twenty years.

Talented designer

His successful investigations were integrated in his book "Wire ropes", the standard work on rope research. Klaus Feyrer was a talented designer and full of energy, also regarding subjects related to lift construction. Among other things, he occupied himself intensively with dynamic problems involving braking and probability calculations regarding the failure of safety components.

His rope service life calculation method served as the basis for determining the safety factor in lifting gear in the DIN EN81 lift standard. Klaus Feyrer was someone who supported, challenged and taught those around him as well as being very knowledgeable artistically and culturally. The well-being of his staff and doctoral students greatly concerned him. In vivid memory of a great personality.

Professor Wolfram Vogel is a publicly appointed and sworn expert for lift rope and hoisting technology (expert office "Gut Achten").
