Henry Steinmetz established the engineering firm for conveyance technology in 2000 under the name Lift Engineering GmbH (LE). He had launched his lift career in the early 1980s as a specialist worker at Thyssen Aufzüge (TA). He began in production, moved to toolmaking and worked in evening schools after various further education and training measures before taking his examination as master mechanic. He then studied engineering while working and switched to the design and development department. There, one project among others was the national roll-out of the CAD systems in the group.

This resulted in close cooperation with the centres of excellence of Thyssen Aufzüge in the whole of Germany. As a result, Steinmetz was repeatedly asked if he could take part in various project planning orders from the various regions. These requests increased quickly. "This meant we very soon reached the limits of what was feasible," the 62-year old reported. The solution was acquiring a commercial licence at the end of the 1990s with the approval of the Board of Directors and taking the work home. This was how his self-employed work began along with his daily tasks at ThyssenKrupp Aufzüge.Lift Engineering GmbH was then established in 2000.

"After some teething problems, I was able to convince through quality and reliability, acquire many new customers and take root on the market internationally with great projects," Steinmetz recalled. In the meantime, the company has customers in Dubai, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Japan, among others. "We’ve made our mark there too but without neglecting our market in Germany," the company owner emphasised.

"Here we have been and are involved in some fantastic projects, such as ‘The Square’ at Frankfurt Airport with over 100 lifts, ‘The Seven’, the Pergamum Museum, the SAP campus or currently the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin," Henry Steinmetz was pleased to relate. He can look back on 40 years in lift building and is glad that TKE "is still one of my most loyal customers." "But I couldn’t have achieved all this without my three employees."
